Autumn Meeting: A meeting will be held at 2 PM at the Victory Services Club, 26 November 2019, doors opening at 1 PM.
Venue: Victory Services Club, Seymour St, London W2 2HF. The meeting will be held in the El-Alamein Room.
Timing: Doors open at 1:00 PM, meeting begins at 2:00 PM.
The speaker will be Times journalist Michael Binyon. He is currently a leader writer and occasion arts and books critic.
Members will recall Michael's talk at the Victory Club in 2013 when he described his links with the island going back twenty years and discussed issues concerning the island's press supported by some amusing stories about his visits to St. Helena.
Michael's talk will be called "An island for our Times". He will explain how he accompanied two readers trips organized by the Times at the beginning of 2019 and why there is continued interest in St. Helena. He will also look at the prospects for tourism with the new airport and why the island's history still has a fascination for anyone interested in the history of the British Empire.
Members may wish to have lunch in the restaurant or bring a snack in the Trafalgar Room from 13.00. Refreshments will be served during the meeting. It would be helpful if members could confirm their attendance before Friday 11 October 2019 so that the correct amount of refreshments can be ordered.
